Everton have confirmed reports that they are hoping to sign Los Angeles Galaxy and USA international forward Landon Donovan on loan.
The Toffees want the versatile 27-year-old to join them in January on a three-month loan deal following the end of the Major League Soccer season.
He spent time on loan at Bayern Munich last year, while earlier on in his career he played in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.
Donovan himself is keen to make a temporary move to one of Europe's major leagues in a bid to keep himself fresh ahead of next summer's World Cup finals.
"He is a player that manager David Moyes has identified as someone he would like to bring to the club," revealed chief executive Robert Elstone.
"We are working to make that happen and hope we can reach agreement soon with all the appropriate parties."
